OM System Launches 50–200mm f/2.8 IS PRO, A Telephoto First

Today, OM System has officially introduced the M.Zuiko Digital ED 50–200mm f/2.8 IS PRO, a lens that brings a constant f/2.8 aperture to an impressive 100–400mm equivalent focal range. The company says it is the first lens of its kind for the Micro Four Thirds system.

Designed with outdoor and wildlife photographers in mind, the lens offers IP53 weather-sealing and operates in conditions as cold as –10°C. Its internal zoom design helps maintain balance during shooting, while the overall build emphasizes durability.

Weighing just 1,075 grams, the lens is notably lighter than full-frame alternatives, many of which are more than twice the weight. Portability is paired with performance: when used with a compatible OM System body, the lens delivers up to seven stops of image stabilization, enabling handheld telephoto shooting without compromise.

The 50–200mm f/2.8 IS PRO also supports in-camera focus stacking and high-speed burst shooting, features aimed at both wildlife specialists and macro enthusiasts. Its fast autofocus system makes it equally effective for capturing birds, action, or sports events.

Priced at around $3,699, the lens will be available beginning October 3, 2025. While the investment is significant, reviewers suggest it reinforces OM System’s strategy of offering lightweight, professional tools that extend the appeal of Micro Four Thirds to serious photographers.
