Nikon Corporation announced its full-frame sensor camera today, which is designed for professional filmmakers, high-end productions, and cinema.
The ZR combines advanced filmmaking solutions by integrating technology from RED Digital Cinema, a subsidiary of Nikon, with Nikon’s expertise in imaging.
The ZR features a full-frame sensor and introduces R3D NE, a new video recording file format based on RED’s R3D RAW video recording codec, specifically developed for Nikon cameras.
It employs the color science and exposure standards of RED cameras to guarantee precise color matching.
Additionally, it provides two base ISO sensitivities, ISO 800 and ISO 6400, along with an extensive dynamic range of over 15 stops, ensuring exceptional image quality across various conditions. It also supports internal recording of video up to 6K/59.94p.

Moreover, with a strong focus on audio capabilities, it is the first camera in the world to offer 32-bit float audio recording with both built-in and external microphones.
The built-in microphone, utilizing Nokia’s OZO Audio technology, features five pickup patterns for superior audio recording quality.
Despite its prominent 4.0-inch monitor, it is the lightest model in the Z CINEMA series, weighing approximately 540 g, which facilitates high-quality film production with a minimal setup.
Furthermore, the short flange focal distance of 16 mm, the shortest among full-frame cameras and a characteristic of the Nikon Z mount, allows for the use of a wide range of lenses.
Nikon aims to explore new heights in optical performance while addressing user needs, contributing to the evolution of imaging culture, including cinema, with the aspiration of broadening the possibilities for visual expression.
Filmmakers and content creators can anticipate remarkable advancements from this new collaboration between Nikon and RED.
