Afeez Owo Reveals Truth About Separation With Mide Martins

Afeez and Wife

Popular Nigerian actor and director Afeez Owo has finally broken his silence on the cause of his brief separation from wife and fellow Nollywood star Mide Martins, nearly a decade after the incident sparked widespread speculation.

Speaking on the Behind The Fame podcast, Afeez revealed that the 2016 marital crisis stemmed from a minor misunderstanding that spiralled out of control after it was made public on social media. At the time, Mide had posted that her husband had moved out of their matrimonial home following an argument about the well-being of his children.

“The news of our separation went viral. And the fight became our first and the last fight as a couple,” Afeez said. “It was a very serious matter, but we later reconciled.”

He explained that he had left the house in frustration, intending to cool off for two nights at a hotel. However, after Mide’s post accused him of abandoning the family, he decided to extend his stay, further fueling public speculation.

“It was an issue we should have resolved between ourselves, but social media made the matter escalate even more,” he added.

The couple eventually reconciled after Mide apologised, and they have remained together since. Afeez admitted that he didn’t handle the situation well, but emphasised that the incident was their first and only major fight in their marriage.

Mide Martins, daughter of late Nollywood icon Funmi Martins, married Afeez Owo in 2003, shortly after her mother’s passing. Their union has long been admired in the industry, and this candid revelation sheds light on the challenges they’ve overcome behind the scenes.
