Last Season’s Mistake Won’t Repeat Itself – Finidi

Finidi George

Rivers United’s coach, Finidi George, on Monday, August 25, has pledged that his team will avoid repeating the errors of last season, where they finished as runners-up to Remo Stars, as they embark on their quest for the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League title.

‎The Pride of Rivers commenced the new season last Friday against the reigning champions, securing a 1-1 draw at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.

‎This was a promising start for the 2022 champions, who have maintained their superiority over Remo Stars. They have triumphed in seven of their last 11 encounters before Friday, while Remo has managed only one victory.

‎Following the match, Finidi reflected on their prospects for contending for the title this season, having finished seven points behind Remo Stars last year.

‎”We understand what’s at stake and where we faltered last season. I don’t believe we will repeat those mistakes this time around,” Finidi stated.

‎”We will strive for every point. That’s our objective this season. As for pressure, I don’t think so, but you know how the league operates; we just hope for a strong start. A good beginning can propel the team to achieve greater things.

‎”Thus, there is no pressure on my end, but the club may be considering what actions to take and how the results unfold. I am confident that based on what we have observed from the players, everything will turn out positively.”

‎Finidi, a former international player, joined the Pride of Rivers last season after a brief tenure as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

‎Rivers United concluded the previous season with 64 points, seven points behind the champions, Remo Stars.
