The Nigerian government has introduced a subsidy on kidney dialysis in federal hospitals, drastically cutting the cost of the procedure. Approved by President Bola Tinubu, the policy reduces the price of a single dialysis session from an average of ₦50,000 to ₦12,000, a 76% decrease.
This initiative, announced by Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, aims to provide immediate financial relief to numerous Nigerians with kidney disease.
The new pricing is already active in ten major federal medical centers and teaching hospitals across all six geopolitical zones, including facilities in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Owerri, Maiduguri, Abeokuta, Azare, Benin, and Calabar.

Bwala stated that more hospitals will be included before the year’s end to broaden access nationwide. He also highlighted the president’s commitment to healthcare, referencing the previous approval of free C-sections in federal hospitals.
These actions reflect the government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” to ensure affordable healthcare for all Nigerians.
