Super Falcons Reject Naira, Demand Dollar Bonuses

‎The debate surrounding the Super Falcons’ WAFCON bonuses has taken a new direction, with reports indicating that the delay was not a result of negligence by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), but rather a disagreement over payment in Naira.

‎Sports analyst Aron provided clarification on Arise TV, stating that the players were offered their allowances but insisted on receiving payment in dollars.

‎”What is not being disclosed is that these players were given the funds,” Aron remarked. According to sources, the NFF suggested paying their total bonuses and camp allowances of $30,000 in Naira at an exchange rate of N1,530. The players declined, stating, ‘We don’t play in Nigeria. What do we want to do with Naira?’

‎Aron further mentioned that the NFF proposed sending the funds to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for conversion into dollars before disbursement, but this process inevitably led to a delay.

‎”Thus, the reason for the delay in payment is not attributable to the NFF,” Aron stressed. “Government protocols were adhered to. The NSC transferred the funds to the NFF. The players rejected Naira. It’s somewhat embarrassing, if you ask me.”

‎The Super Falcons’ choice to refuse Naira has ignited discussions among fans, with some criticizing the players for postponing their rewards, while others support their demand for payment in a more stable currency.

‎The $100,000 bonus, intended to reward Nigeria’s WAFCON-winning team, continues to be a contentious issue as the standoff underscores the tensions between players, administrators, and government regulations.
