Embrace Modern Technology, NDDC Boss Charges Youths

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, has called on youths in the Niger Delta to harness modern technology to build partnerships and drive human capacity development across the region.

A statement made available to TPCN on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, revealed that Ogbuku made this call while speaking at the 2025 International Youth Day celebration, jointly organised by the NDDC and the Ganvic Empowerment Initiative.

He emphasised that this year’s theme focused on collaboration and partnerships as essential tools for youth empowerment.

The NDDC boss highlighted the importance of synergy between the NDDC and state governments, noting that the Commission, as an interventionist agency, relies on support from various stakeholders to implement wide-reaching youth programs.

“We have always liaised with state governments in carrying out such programmes, by also requesting them to nominate and furnish us with the categories of people in their areas of interest, such as people living with disabilities as beneficiaries.

“We have always collaborated with state governments to implement our initiatives. We also encourage them to nominate individuals from key interest groups, such as persons with disabilities, to ensure inclusive participation.”

He further urged youths in the region to remain proactive and committed to their personal and professional growth.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Ahunna Imoni, Director of the Women and Culture Unit in the NDDC Youths Directorate, described International Youth Day as a global recognition of youth creativity and potential. She said the event reflects the NDDC Board’s renewed dedication to advancing youth development.

Mrs. Imoni encouraged young people to continually develop their skills to meet the demands of the modern world.

A resource person at the event, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr, commended the NDDC for sponsoring the initiative, describing it as enlightening and transformative for young people in the Niger Delta.
