UAC of Nigeria Acquires CHI Limited in Major Beverage Industry Deal

UAC of Nigeria PLC has completed the acquisition of CHI Limited from The Coca-Cola Company in a landmark transaction that reshapes Nigeria’s beverage sector. The deal, confirmed on July 30, 2025, transfers ownership of popular brands including Chivita juices and Hollandia dairy products to the Nigerian conglomerate.

The acquisition marks a strategic expansion for UAC, a diversified Nigerian company with interests across food, real estate and logistics. CHI Limited had operated as a Coca-Cola subsidiary since 2019, establishing itself as a market leader in Nigeria’s juice and dairy segments.

Market reaction was immediately positive, with UAC’s shares reaching a 52-week high on the Nigerian Exchange following the announcement. While financial terms remain confidential, industry analysts describe the deal as one of the most significant in Nigeria’s fast-moving consumer goods sector this year.

“This acquisition aligns with our strategy to strengthen our portfolio in essential consumer goods,” said a UAC spokesperson in an official statement. The Coca-Cola Company confirmed the divestment as part of its ongoing portfolio optimization strategy in African markets.

The transaction is expected to intensify competition in Nigeria’s beverage industry, with UAC gaining immediate access to CHI’s extensive production and distribution network. Consumers are not anticipated to see immediate changes to product formulations or pricing.
