Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, has once again highlighted the advancing capabilities of the Tesla Optimus humanoid robot. In a video that gained significant traction on social media, the robot is depicted calmly serving popcorn to a human guest.
This whimsical, popcorn-serving demonstration may appear lighthearted, yet it signifies another important step towards Musk’s broader vision: a future where humanoid robots effortlessly assist with daily tasks.
From folding laundry to walking dogs, Optimus is gradually progressing towards becoming a practical, everyday companion. The video has sparked renewed discussions regarding the future of robotics and automation.
The recent clip, shared by Elon Musk on X (formerly Twitter), showcases the Optimus robot gently filling a packet of popcorn and presenting it with a courteous thumbs-up and a friendly wave.
Although the robot’s movements are intentional and somewhat slower than those of a human, it completes the task without any spills or errors. Musk noted that this event occurred during the soft opening of the Tesla Diner and Supercharger Station located at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, Hollywood, Los Angeles.

This seemingly straightforward action represents a significant milestone in the evolution of general-purpose robotics, underscoring precision, motor control, and user interaction capabilities.
“This will become normal in a few years,” Musk remarked in his post, stressing that serving popcorn is merely the beginning. Musk envisions Tesla Optimus as a versatile robot that could soon assist with household chores, caregiving, dog walking, and even babysitting.
At Tesla’s 2024 “We, Robot” event, he confidently predicted that Optimus could eventually “walk right up to you and serve drinks,” becoming an essential part of daily life, akin to smartphones today.
