GTCO Hosts 15th Autism Conference, Promotes Early Intervention

The 15th Annual Autism Conference, organized by the Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO), is focusing on the essential need for early intervention and inclusion in autism awareness, stressing the significance of fostering a supportive environment for individuals with autism to flourish.

Scheduled to occur from July 15th to 17th at the Muson Centre Onikan in Lagos, stakeholders have underscored the necessity for greater awareness and inclusion leading up to the conference.

During a press conference on Thursday at the GTBank Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos, Oyinade Adegite, Head of Corporate Communication for GTCO, spoke on the company’s dedication to raising awareness and promoting inclusion.

“We need to go into communities, spread the word, and advocate for understanding that individuals with autism are unique and that this does not make them inadequate,” she stated.

Adegite also emphasized the importance of nurturing a supportive atmosphere for those living with autism. “At times, we wonder what is more valuable than lending a voice to those who are voiceless. We can speak, yet we sometimes feel unheard. This is a concern for us, and you can only imagine how it feels for children and adults who struggle to express themselves and seek understanding from society and their communities.”

Dr. Grace Bamgboye, a distinguished speech and language pathologist, highlighted the significance of early intervention in allowing children with autism to achieve their maximum potential.

“Identifying and intervening as early as possible leads to improved outcomes for these children,” she noted. Solape Azazi, a dedicated autism advocate, shared her journey of navigating the system and pointed out the pressing need for additional support and resources.

“Numerous families are left to manage on their own, lacking access to essential tools and support to assist their children in thriving,” she remarked.

GTCO’s 15-year dedication to autism awareness and inclusion has accomplished notable progress in raising awareness and fostering inclusion across Nigeria.

The company’s initiatives have created a platform for families and individuals impacted by autism to share their stories and connect with others who comprehend their experiences.

The conference will offer various activities, including workshops, clinics, and advocacy sessions, aimed at advancing autism awareness and inclusion. With adequate resources and support, individuals with autism can lead fulfilling and meaningful lives, enriching the diversity of their communities.
