Modular refineries in the Niger Delta will be ready soon


The federal government has disclosed that two companies that have been given licence to operate modular refineries in the country have almost completed construction on the project and would soon commence operations.

Speaking at a one-day capacity building workshop for civil society organisations (CSOs), ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), and the media at the state house, Abuja, yesterday, on the New Vision for the Niger Delta and nation-building, organised by the office of the Vice President, senior special assistant to the President on economic matters, Mr Edobor Iyamu, disclosed that construction works on the refineries by one of the companies have reached 70 percent completion.

Also speaking at the workshop with the theme: Niger Delta New Vision: Partnership for regional development & Nation-building, Iyamu explained that more companies that have also been given licence are at the point of bringing in equipment for modular refineries into the country. According to him, the federal government has been doing a lot to develop the Niger Delta region of the country.

He said: ‘‘We have seen a situation in the past where promises were made by governments and not being fulfilled. The administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to doing more to the development of the region with the new vision. For instance, academic activities have commenced at the Maritime University. Also, there have been increased budgetary allocations for the Niger Delta development.’’

Also, a new website www.ndnewvision.gov.ng, which provides information on the activities of the government in the Niger Delta was launched at the workshop.
Speaking on the new website, the special assistant to the president on communication projects, Niger Delta, Mr Arukaino Umukoro,disclosed that the platform showcases what the government is doing in the region. He said the website is one of the communication strategies of the government adding that the website has a tracking channel.
