Bad News: Chelsea Caicedo Raises Injury Concern Over Fitness for Cup Final

Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has provided an injury update regarding one of his players who is uncertain for the Club World Cup final on Sunday.

Maresca addressed the media following the Blues’ advancement to the final on Tuesday night, thanks to a 2-0 win over the Brazilian team Fluminense.

The Blues advanced due to goals scored on either side of half-time by their new £60 million acquisition, Joao Pedro, who joined earlier this week from Brighton.

While Maresca would have appreciated the Brazilian forward’s performance, he is concerned about the fitness of one of his key players.

The player in question was unable to complete the match after appearing to be in discomfort following an attempted tackle.

This incident took place in the 93rd minute when the game was virtually decided, with Chelsea leading by two goals.

Moises Caicedo was observed limping off the pitch as Chelsea had to conclude the match at MetLife Stadium with only 10 players.

After the match, Maresca commented: ‘Dario [Essugo] experienced a muscle issue yesterday during training. He will likely be prepared for the next season.

‘Moises twisted his ankle. He believed he could continue even though I advised him that we could manage with 10 players. He experienced pain. Therefore, we hope he can recover in time for Sunday.’

Chelsea will face either PSG or Real Madrid, who are set to compete against each other on Wednesday for their opportunity to secure a place in the final.

Regardless of which team the West Londoners encounter, it seems that FIFA will struggle to sell the full allocation of tickets if past attendance figures in the tournament are any indication.

Ticket prices for standard admission to Chelsea’s match against Fluminense were reduced to just $13.40 (£10.50) on Saturday, a mere fraction of the $473.90 (£373) that fans were being charged less than three days prior
