The Bonny Local Government Council has approved ₦50 million as bursary support for 1,000 indigenes of the area studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Under the scheme, each selected student will receive ₦50,000 to help ease the financial burden associated with their education.
The application forms for the bursary were presented to the leadership of the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS), led by its National President, Comrade Tumini Sonny Jumbo, to coordinate the application process for eligible students.
Speaking during the presentation, the Council’s Chief of Staff, Elder Promise Bristol, said the initiative demonstrates the administration’s commitment to education and human capital development.

He said the programme was designed to support students facing financial difficulties and encourage them to pursue their academic goals.
The Council Chairman, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, said the administration would continue to support Bonny students and ensure that financial challenges do not prevent them from completing their education.
He also directed NUBS to ensure that the application and selection process is transparent, fair and inclusive, giving qualified students from communities across Bonny equal opportunity to benefit.
The presentation was witnessed by the Supervisor for Education, Comr. Sofiri Benneth Pepple, and Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Hon. Godswill Lawson Jumbo.
The initiative is part of the council’s efforts to promote educational opportunities and youth development in Bonny LGA.
