‎Sad news as Rivers Utd Rival Loses Team Manager, Former Captain‎‎



‎The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a respected team manager and former captain of a Nigeria Premier Football League, Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri, Chijioke Ekpemandu, is dead.

‎The deceased, Chijioke Ekpemandu was widely regarded as a pillar of professionalism and leadership both during his playing days and in his post-retirement role. His passing has left a deep void within the club and the broader Nigerian football fraternity.

‎During his active years, he captained the team with distinction, earning admiration for his discipline, commitment, and influence on and off the pitch. He was instrumental in guiding the club through some of its most defining moments, helping to build a strong team culture that continues to shape the squad today.

‎Following his retirement, he transitioned seamlessly into management, taking up the role of team manager where he continued to serve with dedication. Known for his close relationship with players and staff, he played a crucial role in mentoring younger talents and ensuring cohesion within the squad.

‎Club officials expressed their grief in a brief statement, describing him as “a true servant of the game whose legacy will remain part of the club’s history.” Teammates, former players, and fans have also taken to social media to pay tribute, highlighting his humility, leadership, and unwavering passion for football.

‎A statement signed by the Media Officer of the Club, Ambassador Ezinwa Saviola Godwin, on Sunday said: “It is with regret, sadness, and heavy heart that Kun Khalifat FC of Owerri announces the passing of our former captain, a brother, a leader, and a legend, Chijioke Ekpemandu who died in a road accident.

‎“We are heartbroken by this loss. Until his death, on Saturday, April 4th 2026, he was our Team Manager.

‎“Chijioke was a true leader on and off the pitch. His leadership, dedication, and passion for the club will never be forgotten. He gave his all to this club and inspired everyone around him.

‎“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

‎“CJ, may your gentle soul rest in peace.

‎“You will never be forgotten.”
