Fubara Urges Voters to Back APC Candidates in Bye-Election

Siminalayi Fubara, Rivers State Governor, has urged voters to support candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s bye-elections in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas.

Earlier, The Port City (TCPN) reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that elections would be held in Ahoada East Constituency II and Khana Constituency II in order to fill the open seats in the sate assembly.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday, Fubara called on eligible voters to participate in the bye-election and cast their ballots for the APC candidates contesting the two vacant legislative seats.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor described the election as a “family affair”. He appealed to residents, particularly in the affected constituencies, to remain peaceful and law-abiding throughout the exercise.

Fubara urged citizens to avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace, stressing that there was no need for rancour or acrimony.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command ordered a restriction of movement in the two local government areas from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday to ensure a peaceful process.

The vacancies arose from resignation and death. The Ahoada East II seat became vacant after its member, Edison Ehie, resigned, while the Khana II seat fell vacant following the death of its occupant, Dinebari Loolo, in September 2023 in Port Harcourt.

Ehie resigned after a peace deal brokered by Bola Tinubu resolved a prolonged political rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

After he resigned, the governor appointed him as Chief of Staff.
