Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ Tour Becomes Highest-Grossing African Tour

Nigerian global superstar Burna Boy has shattered records with his recent ‘I Told Them…’ tour. According to data from concert industry monitors, the tour has officially become the highest-grossing concert series by any African artist in history, amassing a staggering $30.5 million.

The tour, which spanned 22 shows across Europe and North America, drew over 302,000 fans. It demonstrated a powerful commercial split, earning $15.19 million from 16 North American dates and another $15.27 million from just 6 packed-out shows in Europe.

The crown jewel of the tour was a historic night at London Stadium on June 29, 2024. That single concert grossed $6.147 million from nearly 59,000 tickets, setting the new record for the highest-grossing single concert by an African artist.

Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Burna Boy’s journey to this record-breaking moment has been one of defiant self-belief—a theme aptly captured in the tour’s titular phrase, “I Told Them.”

His early sound, a fusion of dancehall, reggae, and Afrobeat, was cultivated in the vibrant Nigerian music scene under the influence of his mother, a manager, and his grandfather, who was Fela Kuti’s first manager.

His 2018 album, Outside, caught international attention, but it was 2019’s African Giant that announced his arrival, earning him a Grammy nomination.
