In a display of maritime prowess and cultural heritage, the Wilcox Chieftaincy House emerged as the undisputed champions of the 2025 Bonny Kingdom Boat Regatta. The historic victory, sealed on December 26th, was accompanied by a grand announcement that shot the festival onto Nigeria’s national stage.
The winning team, powered by the stirring traditional rhythms known as “Egède-yè-Buruwí” from the Wilcox House, clinched a prestigious prize of ₦2.5 million.
Beyond the thrilling races, a major development unfolded. The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) officially declared the Bonny Kingdom Boat Regatta a flagship event for “Naija Season 2026.” This national cultural platform will showcase Nigeria’s diverse heritage to a global audience.

Mr. Obi Asika, Director General of the NCAC, crowned Bonny Kingdom as Nigeria’s Cultural Gateway to the Atlantic, emphasizing the regatta’s critical role in celebrating the nation’s rich coastal traditions and driving growth in the creative economy.
The successful 3rd edition was bolstered by significant partnerships with key organizations including Renaissance Africa Energy Company, NLNG, Bonny Local Government, and Altrad, with media support from Arise News and Goge Africa. Beverage brands Orijin and Hero Lager added to the festive atmosphere.
The 2025 regatta has set a powerful precedent. The Bonny Kingdom Boat Regatta is now a certified national treasure, poised to draw the world’s eyes to the rhythmic heart of the Niger Delta.
