Education, Choices, and Identity: The Story of Esther Raphael

Esther Raphael

When Esther Raphael speaks, it’s not with shame or apology, but with an unshaken conviction about the life she chose. To many, she is the trending name attached to adult content that shook social media. But to herself, she is Didee — a biochemistry graduate, content creator, and young woman charting her own path, even when the world insists on defining her otherwise.

Born and raised in Akwa Ibom under a strict Christian upbringing, Esther’s early years were disciplined and sheltered. The Church was her family’s second home, and school was the only other space allowed. She excelled academically, rising to the position of Assistant Senior Prefect at Methodist Senior Science College, Oron, before heading to the University of Uyo to study Biochemistry.

But after graduation, life quickly unravelled. “Nobody prepares you for life after university,” she admitted. “It wasn’t what I expected. I felt lost.” A heartbreak later pushed her to Lagos, where she first sought escape, then found herself in the chaos of reinvention. She bounced between Abuja and Lagos before finally settling in Lekki in 2024.

It was here that she embraced the identity many now know her for, not just as a porn star, but as a woman building her own economy in a society that offers few safety nets. “My choice wasn’t about lack. It was about freedom and control,” she said. “I am educated. I made a decision and I stand by it.”

Esther is also a remote social media manager and is building a soft-care brand aimed at women navigating their twenties. Yet, her public persona cost her dearly: a strained relationship with her parents, the loss of some friendships, and the stigma of being branded with a single identity.

Still, she remains unbothered. “I am not defending myself. I am saying my truth,” she insists. “I can be both soft and strong. I can be sexual and I can also be smart.”

For Esther Raphael, the viral scandal is not the story. The real story is a young woman, at 25, refusing to be boxed in by societal expectations, choosing instead to live life on her own terms, no matter the cost.
