The ONELGA Security Peace and Advisory Committee (OSPAC) has given reasons why the Rivers State Police Command was not prosecuting suspects arrested and handed over to the police by OSPAC.
OSPAC is a well established local vigilante group that supports security operatives in maintaining peace and fighting crimes in certain local government areas within the state.
The security outfit primarily works to enhance the effort of law enforcements in areas where there are concerns about crime and public disorder such as its origin Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Emohua LGA and Ikwerre LGA among others.
Recently, OSPAC was not comfortable with the quick release of suspects, it arrested and handed over to the police. The vigilante group said some of the quickly released suspects turn around to plan attacks on OSPAC members.

But a series of meetings with the police had nipped the issue in the bud, clarifying that suspects who were quickly released were arrested without substantial evidence to back their prosecution in court.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Secretary General of OSPAC, Eze Gift Ohia said: “It has been addressed and we are working together very well. I think the synergy is okay now.
“Sometimes, the police might not have enough evidence to prosecute the suspect which is one of the main reasons they grant administrative bail to suspects.
“A series of meetings we have held with the police have informed us that there must be enough proof of evidence to give the police the needed backing to prosecute suspects”
“Our people are doing well across the state. Though in organisations like ours, you might see some odd behaviours which are negligible. Our principles and ethics are the same everywhere OSPAC is.”
OSPAC secretary general also admitted that the alleged killer Kelvin Okoro that slain reverend sister, Maureen Wecheonwu in Aluu Community in Ikwerre LGA was arrested and handed over to the police by OSPAC.
