“Rivers State Health Workers Trained to Boost HIV Testing and Care Services”

Community health care workers have been advised to increase their knowledge of national guidelines for HIV testing services and develop skills for conducting people-centered care mechanisms.

The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Igwem Ekele, gave the advice during a training workshop on the integration of community Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTC), Paediatric and adolescent HIV intervention program in Port Harcourt.

The country lead for the Paediatric Breakthrough Partnership in Nigeria, Mrs Aisha Dadi, explained that the purpose of the program is to integrate PMTC and pediatric HIV services in healthcare facilities for data capturing, reporting, and referrals.

Two of the participants in the training, Dr Godson Akapbo and Dr Theresa Izuchukwu, who expressed joy over the program, called for speedy inclusion of traditional birth attendance to achieve effective results of the training.
Our Correspondent reports that Community healthcare workers from fourteen local Government Areas of the State participated in the Training.
