Nigeria’s golfing prodigy, Sunday Olapade, has once again etched his name in the annals of sports history. The talented golfer clinched his third consecutive victory by triumphing at the prestigious CIO Golf Championship held at the esteemed Python Golf Club in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

With a remarkable score of 271, 17 under par, Olapade outclassed a field of talented golfers from eight African countries. His consistent performances throughout the tournament, including rounds of 65, 71, 69, and 66, solidified his dominance and secured his place as the champion.

This victory marks a significant milestone in Olapade’s career, as he becomes the first golfer to achieve a treble across West Africa. Having previously conquered the Ivory Coast Open and the Ghana PGA Championship, he has cemented his status as a force to be reckoned with in the region.

Ikenna Okafor, the CEO of Keves Global Leasing, the sponsor of the CIO Championship, expressed his admiration for Olapade’s exceptional talent and dedication. He highlighted the young golfer’s unwavering commitment to his craft, which sets him apart from his peers. Okafor also praised the overall quality of the tournament, noting the impressive scores achieved by all participants.

The event witnessed fierce competition, with Wemba Sydney from Zambia securing the runner-up position with a score of 276. A trio of golfers, including Monday Eze from Nigeria and Mapwanya Visitor and Michael Bulabula from Zimbabwe, tied for third place with a combined score of 280.

The CIO Championship attracted a field of 140 professional golfers and 240 amateur players from Nigeria and across Africa. Tony Philmoore, Director of the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria, hailed the event as the largest golf tournament in Nigeria in recent times, signifying the growing popularity of the sport in the country.

Olapade’s extraordinary achievement not only brings pride to Nigeria but also inspires young golfers to strive for excellence. His dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent serve as a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes across the nation.
