Boxing Bonanza Hits Port Harcourt As A World-Class Fight Comes to Rivers State

Get ready to rumble! Port Harcourt is about to host a night of epic boxing action on December 7th at the Diete Spiff Civic Centre. The much-anticipated “Simplified Rumble in Rivers for Champions” event is set to be a knockout!

The main event of the night will see our very own undefeated featherweight sensation, Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje, take on Tanzania’s tough contender, Loren Japhet. Agbaje’s 16-0 record with 11 knockouts speaks for itself, but Japhet’s experience (18-7-3 with 4 KOs) shouldn’t be underestimated. This 12-round battle for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) world featherweight title promises to be a thrilling showdown.

But that’s not all! The undercard is packed with exciting fights featuring some of Nigeria’s top boxing talent. We’ll witness the long-awaited return of the legendary Ike ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi, who will step back into the ring after years away to face Egypt’s Sammy Abdalla. 

Other notable matchups include former WBC Super Featherweight Silver Champion Elizabeth Oshoba taking on Egypt’s Hargar Mohammed, and ex-WBO International light middleweight champion King Davidson squaring off against Egyptian Ayman Mohammed. Nigerian rising star Jude ‘Great Jude’ Iloh will also be in action, facing Angola’s Lando Henriques.

A Boost for Rivers State

Rivers State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Israel Lebura Ngbuelo, has expressed his excitement about the event, stating that it is a testament to the state’s safety, hospitality, and suitability for international business. He believes the fight will attract visitors from around the world and showcase the best of Rivers State.

The commissioner has also encouraged young people in the state to take up sports as a career, highlighting the lucrative opportunities it offers. He commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his support of state sports development.

A Star-Studded Affair

The “Simplified Rumble in Rivers for Champions” is expected to be a star-studded affair, with top celebrities like Flavour, Finidi George, Daniel Amokachi, Duncan Mighty, and Timaya, among others, gracing the event.

Howard Goldberg, President of the World Boxing Federation, has even canceled a trip to the United States to attend the fight in person, underscoring the global significance of this event.
