Gunmen kill again in Ahoada after youths raised alarm

By Mark Lenu

No fewer than four persons have been killed by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen in the Ahoada axis of Rivers State leaving the area in a state of shock and panic.

The state police image maker, SP Grace Iringe-Koko who confirmed it said the killing could be cult related. The killers were reported to have stormed the area at 2:am on Sunday looking for their targets from door to door.

Before the gunmen struck, the PRO of the Ahoada Igbu Youth Congress, Comr. Ekeakita, Hector Chinem had raised the alarm on imminent attacks by suspected cultists.

The youth leader said some of the boys who were working for the slain cult leader. David Okpara popularly known as 2Baba was brandishing assault rifles in the area.

He said the armed boys were freely entering communities with AK-47 rifles publicly showing to everyone that they were battle-ready.

The Ahoada axis was relatively peaceful following the killing of 2Baba by security operatives in revenge for the brutal killing of the late Ahoada DPO, SP Bako Angbashim by 2Baba and his gang.

The recent killing again by suspected cultists had shown that Ahoada is not safe and would require drastic security actions from the government.

Meanwhile, the state of insecurity in the country had prompted former President Olusegun Obasanjo to say that his administration was better than the Tinubu-led administration.

Obasanjo said the country needs to do something urgent on insecurity which, he said, has taken over some parts of the nation.

The former president stated this in Bauchi State, on Sunday, where he inaugurated road projects constructed by Governor Bala Mohammed.

He said insecurity in Nigeria today is worse when compared to his time in office, as he advocated for community policing, to easily identify and address security threats within.
