Police-shake up: LG redeploys FCT, Rivers, Delta Commissioner

In a bid to enhance policing efficiency, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the redeployment of Commissioners of Police (CPs) in Rivers, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commands.

The shake-up affects the following CPs:

  • CP Tunji Disu: redeployed from Rivers State to FCT command
  • CP Abaniwonda Olufemi: reassigned from Delta State to Rivers State command
  • CP Peter Opara: moves from FCT to Delta State command

According to Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, the redeployment aims to ensure effective policing in the affected states.

“The Inspector-General of Police, in an effort to strategically emplace a Police Force well-efficient for effective policing, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Commissioners of Police of Rivers State Command, Delta State Command, and the Federal Capital Territory.”

Following approval from the Police Service Commission, four additional CPs have been deployed to:

  • Abia State Command: CP Danladi Nda
  • Lagos State Command: CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale
  • Ebonyi State Command: CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya, FDC
  • Akwa-Ibom State Command: CP Festus Eribo.

Adejobi quoted the IGP as urging the new CPs to:

“Ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility.”

The IGP also encouraged the new CPs to key into the police reform plans, which will help the progress of the Nigeria Police Force and the country’s growth.

“The posting of these strategic managers reflects the mission of the Inspector-General of Police to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilization of human resources available to the Force.”

“With these changes, the Nigeria Police Force aims to enhance its effectiveness and better serve the nation”.
