Shun criminality, RSG tells Tai youths

By Kelechi Esogwa-Amadi

Rivers State government has advised youths of Tai local government area to continue to shun all acts of criminality that are inimical to the interests of the LGA and the state.

The state government made the call through its commissioner for youth development, Chisom Wali, during an advocacy visit to the LGA this weekend.

He commended the youths of Tai for maintaining a low crime profile that has ensured that acts such as kidnapping, illegal bunkering and refining, armed robbery, and cybercrime are not rampant in the area, urging them to continue in that light.

The commissioner stated: “Some of those things that are inimical to the society, like kidnapping, illegal refining of hydrocarbon, cybercrime, and drugs are very minimal. In fact, the level is not significant in Tai.”

He said the peaceful nature of Tai youths has attracted the attention of the state government which has decided to reciprocate by engaging them in human capital development through skills acquisition.

The commissioner said the advocacy visit was a demonstration of the Rivers State government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises, hence the decision to visit the area after the election, noting that most politicians prefer to visit LGAs only during election campaigns where they make promises that they will never fulfill.

“Before now, what you see is politicians coming to various local governments to ask for their votes, thereby promising them heaven and earth. But this time, it’s after the election, to show that the governor is upholding his own campaign promises.

“What we’re going to see in the coming days is that skills will be the order of the day for youths of Rivers State,” he said.

Dr. Chisom Wali later disclosed to journalists that because of its peaceful nature, Tai has been chosen as one of the three LGAs that would host the state’s vocational training centers.

“The youths of Tai and Tai generally are a stable ground and peaceful place. They’re already yearning. They’re willing. The chairman has done a whole lot to create a convivial ambiance for anything to thrive.

“We even recommended Tai as one of the three places we’re going to situate the proposed vocational training center. The message of the governor was received with rapt attention by the youths of Tai,” he said.
