Medical and Dental Practitioners call for suspension of fuel subsidy removal

By Desmond Iwuchukwu

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners has thrown its weight behind the call by the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC for the federal government to suspend the removal of fuel subsidy.

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners said this in a statement issued after its National Executive Committee Meeting following the announcement of the fuel subsidy removal by President Bola Tinubu.
The statement signed by its National President Dr Sofiri Peterside and the National Secretary Dr Enobong Akpan asked the federal government to revert to the old pump price of PMS to avert the looming multi-sectoral industrial disharmony that may grind the country to a halt.

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners further called on the Federal government to strengthen healthcare financing by ensuring at least 15% budgetary allocation to the health sector.

The statement also tasked President Bola Tinubu to revamp the existing refineries to functional capacity.

The Medical Practitioners noted that licenses should be given for the establishment of more refineries to encourage the local production of Petroleum products.

They also asked President Bola Tinubu to provide palliatives for Nigerians when the subsidy will be eventually removed.

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners also appealed to the federal government to cut the cost of Governance in the country.

Similarly, the State Chairman of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners Dr Alex Woke has called on the public to treat medical practitioners with proper decorum.

Dr Alex Woke while speaking to our correspondent lamented the poor treatment meted out to doctors and medical practitioners in various medical facilities in the state.

He said that doctors are doing their best to offer medical services to patients despite harsh working conditions in the country.

Dr. Alex Woke, however, assured the public that doctors in the state will continue to give the best of Medicare at various health facilities in Rivers State.

The State Chairman of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners Dr Alex Woke also commended security agencies in the state for providing maximum protection to medical doctors in the state.
