Ex-commissioner under Wike dumps APC

Former Commissioner of Urban Development, Dr Reason Onya, has officially resigned his membership from the All Progressive Congress Party APC and gone back to the People’s Democratic Party PDP.

Dr Onya, who disclosed this in an interview with our Correspondent, said the People’s Democratic Party PDP is his traditional political party.

He emphasized that his mission and the primary aim of leaving PDP for APC was to run an election in the opposite party in his local government area, which he successfully achieved.

“I left APC for PDP. Naturally, I do not comment on relationships with anybody before going to another body or from one platform to another. I have my reasons which will be out in the book I am working on, as my experience in the Rivers State campaigning from 2003 to 2023.

“The reason I have to go back to PDP, traditionally it is my party, is where I belong. The boss once told me that where I am going, I do not belong there, and he is correct, but aside from that, it is an experience worth being involved in, and I appreciate the actors in APC I worked with before leaving.

“In a nutshell, I wanted to run an election in the opposite party in my LGA and see the result. After running it in the presidential election, I saw the development and was satisfied with the result was my mission of leaving PDP; I had no more option than to go back to PDP.

“I have fulfilled my mission of running for election in a different platform in my LGA. Now that has been accomplished, and I moved back to PDP, I worked for PDP at the dying minute during the last Governorship election.

“I was not allowed to tell them I am leaving. I made an effort to do that, but it was not possible. How be it am happy I am back to my traditional party”.

The former Urban Development Commissioner maintained that the electioneering experience he has garnered from a different political party platform would help in the work he is putting up on the way forward for Rivers people.

“I will miss them in APC because some of them are wonderful guys; it was interesting to be with them in a different political chapter in my life, and it is helping me in this work I am putting up.

“Going to the other side, seeing how they operate and where I was the way they operate, I think I am in a better position to come up with what I think is the way forward for Rivers people futuristically”.
