NDLEA, Army raid drug spot, arrest suspects

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army has stormed a notorious drug peddling spot in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

According to the spokesperson of the state NDLEA, DCN Emmanuel Ogbumgbada, the raid occurred within the wee hours of Wednesday.

“Operatives of NDLEA Rivers State Command in a joint raid operation with personnel of 6 Division Garrison Command, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, stormed the notorious Abuja Estate, popularly called Abuja Down, Port Harcourt Township on Wednesday 15th March, 2023 between the hours of 2 am to 4am, and dislodged major illicit drug flow ahead of the March 18, 2023 Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections.

“During the course of the operation, 4 Suspects comprising three (3) Males and One (1) Female, namely; Azeez Surakat, ‘M’, Adeniyi Kareem, ‘M’ Moshood Adeleye, ‘M’, and Patience Ndubuisi ‘F’ were arrested with Cocaine, Cannabis Sativa and Methamphetamine, totalling 114.291 Kg.

“The suspects have volunteered useful information to the Agency and are undergoing investigation at the NDLEA Rivers State Command headquarters.

“The State Commander, Commander Ahmed Mamuda, commended the officers who took part in the joint raid operation and also hailed the Nigerian Army for the synergy and professionalism.

“He charged them to keep up their tireless efforts and sustain the tempo of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), in ensuring an environment free of drug abuse before, during and after the elections.

“He reminded officers of the command that a win for NDLEA is a win for the society,” the statement said.
