Mrs. Chigbewejim Lawyer, a mother of two children, was kidnapped and raped to death by suspected members of the Iceland cult group in Abarikpo Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Our correspondent gathered that she was abducted at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, and later found dead at about 10 a.m. in her community of Abarikpo with multiple injuries and blood in her private parts.

In an interview with journalists, the husband of the deceased woman, who is an assistant pastor in Seventh Day Adventist Church Abarikpo, Pastor Lawyer Steward, lamented that his wife was abducted and raped to death by her abductors.

“I am the husband of Chigbejim Lawyer who was murdered by some boys after raping her they murdered her.

“I am not a cultist, I am an assistant pastor in charge of evangelism in Seventh Day Adventist Church in Abarikpo. Everybody in my community knows I am not a cultist.

“She had three children, one of whom is delayed. The surviving children are a seven-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.

“I am telling the government that those who murdered my wife should be brought to justice. However, one of the perpetrators was Aka Sunday, a cultist who claimed he slaughtered my wife, that my wife always talked against him, that people told him my wife always talked against him, that is why he murdered her,” he said.

Steward further told our correspondent that the Ahoada Police Division in Ahoada town, Ahoada Local Government Area led by the DPO visited the scene on Sunday evening.

In an interview with our correspondent, Ekeakita Hector Chinem, Public Relations Officer of the Igbu Akoh Clan Youth Congress Ahoada East LGA, confirmed the kidnapping and murder of Mrs Chigbewejim Lawyer.

“We have been having a series of killings in Akoh because when they kill, nobody goes after the bad boys, no security personnel goes after the bad boys. No political leader goes after the issue people are afraid to report it, and if one does not report what will happen will happen.

“People are living in fear, the killing of the woman is not cult-related because she is a married woman. Late last year we witnessed eleven killings in the community.

“The cause of the eleven killings last year was a member of one of the cult groups went to their camp and collected AK 47 of his master and ran away with it to the Abarikpo community.

“Only for the cult leader to send his boys and eleven persons were killed innocently in Abarikpo till today no Investigation, no action was taken by the Police to arrest the killers”.

In the meantime, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign Group has condemned the abduction and rape of Mrs Chigbewejim Lawyer to death.

Prince Wiro, National Coordinator of the Group called on the Police to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.

Recall that a suspected notorious Iceland cultist, James Bright aka Borokiri was gunned down in an exchange for gunfire with the Police on December 15, 2022, at Abarikpo Community in Ahoada East local government area.
