National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter has condemned the recurrent political attacks being carried out by political thugs in the State.

State Chairman Youth Council, Comrade Bani Nwisabari Samuel, expressed his displeasure in an interview with our correspondent and frowned at the statement made by the Commission of Police Rivers State that most thuggery attacks are stage-managed.

According to him, some local governments in the state have recorded a series of politically sponsored attacks on different categories of persons.

He, however, called on parents and guardians to caution their wards against being used by political leaders who feel the only way to grip power is through violence, intimidation, and oppression.

“It is becoming a recurrent decimal the space of political attacks being carried out by political thugs of rejected political jobbers who have lost touch with the youths and people of Rivers State.

“From Omuma to Oyigbo, Okrika waterfront, and New GRA Port Harcourt, the state has documented a series of politically motivated attacks on various categories of people, both high and low.”

“The conclusion of the CP that an attack was stage-managed begs the question of the presence of an apolitical policing structure in the state?”

“The question on the lips of the Council, just like others are asking, is how an attack can be stage-managed to the point of injury on an elder brother to the man the police are accusing of leading the stage-managed attack, who is also the victim.

“Also, what car brand is befitting of a former Nigerian senator? It’s appalling how this issue has further exposed the rot in the Nigerian police as Nigeria’s most corrupt agency now knows the brand of car that befits each arm and agency of government.

“Well, let’s believe that the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Effiong Okon, is still not well conversant with the political terrain of Rivers. Perhaps, he needs more time to study the State properly and desist from being used politically to the advantage of a political party in trying to subvert the people’s will”.

Comrade Samuel also condemned the Rivers State Police Command’s premature investigation conclusion on several political attacks and thuggery on Rivers people.

“Let him and his newly discovered paymasters know that the political will of the Rivers people cannot be subverted in 2023.” Hence, let them make amends now before it becomes too late.

“However, any unprofessional behaviour or act from the Rivers State Police Command will see to a massive protest calling for his redeployment from the State and the youths will lead that.

“We hereby call on the police authority to get all the political thugs arrested to serve as a deterrent to others.”

He further lends his voice to condemn the passage of the obnoxious and vexatious executive orders into law by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“We urge the Governor, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, not to sign the bills because they are a direct affront and opposition to young people who have worked very hard to pursue a political career and turn the state’s fortunes around.”
