Youths of Ogoni ethnic nationality in Rivers State have expressed anger over the harassment of the state SDP guber candidate in the 2023 election, Magnus Abe by thugs in Oyigbo LGA.

Abe who accused the state PDP chairman, Desmond Akawor of owning the thugs said the thugs barred him from attending SDP meeting in Oyigbo.

The SDP guber candidate said the thugs accosted him with dangerous weapons, insisting that he (Abe) would not be allowed to enter Oyigbo.

In their reaction, Ogoni youths warned the people of Oyigbo not to drum tribal war under the pretext of politics.

The National President of the National Youth Council of Ogoni People, Matthew Diighi told our correspondent that Ogonis will not condone any attempt to harm Abe before, during and after the forthcoming elections.

“Senator Abe is an illustrious son of Ogoni who has the constitutional right to campaign in any part of the state and country as other candidates have been campaigning in Ogoniland without any harassment from us.

“Let, me use this medium to warn and assure political thugs that we will act if anything happens to Abe in the course of his campaign for governorship,” he said.

The youths also called on the state police command and other security agencies to tighten security around Abe and ensure the quick arrest and prosecution of those behind the attack on him in Oyigbo.

Meanwhile, the state PDP chairman, Desmond Akawor has debunked the claim by Abe that accused him of having hand in the attack on the SDP guber candidate.

Akawor described Abe as a dramatist who is fond of laying false allegations during electioneering period as he did in the 2015 general elections.
