Gunmen kill 8 during shoot out in Ahoada

Some gunmen suspected to be cultists have invaded the Abuja housing estate, Ahoada main Town, in Ahoada East local government area, killing about eight persons in a gun battle.

According to a source, the gunmen invaded the estate on Saturday night, 5 November 2022, in search of rival cult group members.

Our source said a shoot-out ensued between the invaders suspected to be members of the Greenland cult group and their rival Iceland cult group, which resulted in the death of about eight persons and a woman who sustained gunshots injury.

In an interview with our correspondent, a community resident disclosed that the clash made residents scamper for safety and many others remained indoors for fear of being caught by a stray bullet.

The resident further narrated that for two hours the gun battle lasted, no security personnel presence was seen in the area, while noting that some residents had fled from the area in the early hours of today.

Our correspondent reports that Iceland and Greenland cult groups have been involved in supremacy and territorial control battle in the past months, with over twelve persons, reported dead.

The Spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, is yet to respond to text messages sent to her mobile phone on an enquiry into the incident. Still, community sources informed us that Police personnel from Ahoada Divisional Police Headquarters in Ahoada town, Ahoada East Local Government area, visited the scene in the morning hours on 6 November 2022.
