Kalabari Youths call for synergy among LGA Chairmen to curb kidnappings along the Emohua-Kalabari road

Youths in the Kalabari Kingdom have called on security agencies and Local Government Chairmen in the three Kalabari Kingdoms to step up measures to protect the lives of Kalabari people plying the Emohua- Kalabari road.

The Chairman of Ijaw Youths Council IYC Kalabari Clan Edward Asikitam said this while condemning the recent kidnap of eight passengers and the killing of the driver of a commercial sienna car on Saturday evening.

Edward Asikitam further said that the Chairmen in the Kalabari road should take the responsibility of providing adequate security for commuters along the Emohua-Kalabari road.

The Chairman of Ijaw Youths Council IYC Kalabari Clan, Edward Asikitam further asked the Rivers State Government to use part of the 13 percent derivation from oil proceeds to fix the Emohua-Kalabari road.

He said that the Kalabari kingdom plays a big role in the oil sector and should be treated with quality road projects in the area.

The Youth leader noted that the deplorable state of the Emohua-Kalabari road is aiding the kidnappers to carry out their nefarious activities on the road.

Edward Asikitam further said that the IYC will consult with security agencies and the four local chairmen in that axis to see how to curb the incessant kidnapping and criminal activities along the road.

Meanwhile, a security expert in Rivers State, Charles Inko-Tariah has called on the local government chairmen of the affected territorial areas to re-visit their security plans to curb the continued kidnappings along the Emohua-Kalabari road.

Charles Inko-Tariah in an interview with newsmen, called for proper synergy between the community people, elders, and the security agencies to reduce the issues of kidnapping along the Kalabari/Emohua road.

Charles Inko-Tariah further asked the state Government to fix the bad sections along that road which have served as an advantage for the kidnappers operating along the route.
