Two nabbed for selling baby for N400,000 in Edo

The Police in Edo State says it has arrested two suspects for allegedly selling a nine-day-old baby girl for the sum of N400,000.

The suspects identified as Nosa Iyere (62years), and Juliet Agbonifo (45 years) were arrested while trying to close the illegal deal.

Parading the suspects at the state headquarters, the state Police spokesperson, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, said 62 years old Iyere, a retired nurse who operates a maternity clinic by the name of Uyiosa Maternity, sold the baby to her accomplice, who is a trader.

According to him, “the command in an attempt to fight crime and criminality and make peace and tranquility reign in Edo State has made some achievements, which is the recovery of a nine day-old-baby stolen and sold by two suspects.”

Nwabuzor said that “the Divisional Police Officer of the Ogida Police Division, acting on credible information that a certain woman, by name Juliet Agboifo, 45, was about to procure a child at the Teachers House, Ogida, had to move to the scene, arrested the woman who led the detective to the seller, Wilfred Nosa Iyere.”

He noted that the suspects were in custody and will be charged to court soon.

Explaining his involvement, Iyare, said he operated a maternity clinic and had a lady who was delivered of a baby girl in their facility.

He stated that the lady had rejected the child, which led him to sell the baby to his accomplice, Agbonifo.
