Shell reacts to the fresh oil spill in Bodo

The Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC says it is working with regulators and the local community to investigate the reported incident of the oil spill in Bodo Community in the Gokana Local Government Area.

The Spokesman of SPDC Michael Adande said this in a statement sent to newsmen while reacting to the fresh oil spill in Bodo.

The statement said the Trans Niger Pipeline TNP is undergoing tests with water main flushing after injections stopped in mid-June 2022 owing to constant breaches by crude oil thieves.

The spill is coming barely one month after the witnessed an oil spill from a pipeline belonging to the oil multinationals

Gokana Legislative Assembly calls for calm

In the meantime, the Leader of the Gokana Legislative Assembly John Lebura has called for calm following the fresh oil spill in Bodo Community.

John Lebura said authorities in Gokana Local Government Area are already on top of the situation.

John Lebura, who is also the councilor representing Bodo community at the Gokana Legislative Assembly further called on the multinational operating the facility to replace the pipelines.

”Well, like I have spoken to my people, I have advised that we should not allow the ineptitude of Shell Petroleum Development Company SPDC to anger us to the point that we begin to carry out actions that will further endanger the lives of the people of Bodo. I have pleaded with them”.

”Yes, what happened is very sad. It’s regrettable, but we are pleading for the community to maintain calm as the government of Gokana is on top of the situation. We will take further steps to ensure that we reach out to the relevant authorities to ensure that the right thing is done” he said.
