Emohua/Kalabari Road: Rivers LGAs partner with Police to end insecurity

Some Local Government Councils in Rivers State have initiated a partnership with the State Police Command to curb the incessant attacks by criminal elements along the Emohua/Kalabari Road in the state.

Worried over the rate of attacks, the Executive Chairman of Degema Local Government Area, Hon. Michael John Williams, with his counterparts, Hon. Onengiyeofori George of Asari-Toru LGA, Hon. Rowland Sekibo of Akuku-Toru LGA and Dr. Chidi Lloyd of Emohua LGA have collaborated with the State Police Command to contain the menace.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary of Degema local council, Daerefa-a Christopher Braide said the council chairman noted that security presence in the area would send a clear message to hoodlums, who terrorize commuters plying the road on a regular basis.

Williams while conducting security operatives around the area at the weekend, expressed confidence that the effort would be positive.

According to him, the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration prioritizes security in the State, adding that the partnership would restore peace to the affected LGAs.

On his part, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Muhammed Shehu, assured that haven assessed the flashpoints, the State Police Command would deploy its personnel to properly police the area.

According to him, “We were instructed by the Commissioner of Police to come and assess the road and see where we can make deployment, in order to make the area peaceful.

“And we have seen all the exits, where these people (kidnappers) normally kidnap people and run into the bush with their victims.

“We assure you that we are going to give optimum security to cover these areas.”
