14 persons test positive to COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom

No less than 14 persons have been reported to be infected with Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Akwa Ibom State in the resurgence of the pandemic across the country.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Augustine Umoh, said the affected persons have been quarantined while contact tracing of members of their households and other associates is ongoing.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday, the commissioner said, “As I speak, the 14 cases that we have now are in home isolation and monitoring. The process of contact tracing has re-commenced for those that we could pick, those that are positive for management, follow-up, and monitoring.

“We have about 14 active cases in the state. So, this is something we have brought to the notice of all Akwa Ibom residents for them to be prepared.

“We are not surprised. What is important now is for us to get back to the former tempo that assisted us to bring the number of patients down.”

Umoh reminded residents to observe all COVID-19 protocols, noting that the ministry had commenced another round of public education to create awareness as the mode of transmission of the disease is still the same.
