Rivers APC crises deepens as another Chieftain announces resignation

Following the gale of defections trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, another Chieftain of the party, Amb. King Tony Gboms have announced his resignation.

This follows the resignation of some of the top members of the party including allies of both factional leaders of the party, former minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and senator Magnus Abe.

In the letter addressed to the State chairman of the party, Emeka Bekee, Gboms said his decision to resign comes as a result of the high hardness of his principal, Amaechi, who, according to him, runs the party like a private organisation.

The letter reads in part, “It has been a great honour to contribute the development of APC in Rivers State since inception. As a grassroot politician, I hoped to use this platform to provide my people job opportunities, skill acquisition, scholarships, economic and political prosperity, which is lacking till today in our dear state.

“Recent developments have shown that these cannot be achieved due to the high
handedness of the leader of the party, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; there is no internal democracy in the party, he imposes candidates on the people against their preferred choice and runs the party as a private organization.

“After considering these factors, I hereby withdraw my membership forthwith.”
