ISWAP responsible for Owo Church massacre – FG

The Federal Government has named the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) as the perpetrators of Sunday’s church killings in Owo, Ondo State.

Recall that no less than 50 worshipers had lost their lives in the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, on Sunday.

At Security Council Meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, the Federal Government narrowed down the perpetrators of the crime to ISWAP.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, who spoke to state house correspondents after the meeting debunked claims from different quarters that the attacks had an ethnic or religious undertone.

According to him, the council is concerned about the attack and will ensure that the culprits are brought to book.

He said, “Council is quite concerned about the violent attack in Ondo state and we have been able to locate the perpetrators, we have zeroed it that ISWAP did it, the animals in ISWAP wanting attention are responsible, we have asked security personnel to go after them and bring them to justice”.

The meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari had in attendance the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (retd).

Other attendees were the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao.

Also in attendance are the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Bichi; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, and the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman.
