Residents escape death as tanker explodes in Delta

No less than thirteen persons were rescued unhurt following an explosion from a tanker laden with petroleum products in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

It was learnt that the explosion on Monday, happened when a Hilux and a Toyota Sienna collided near the parked tanker which was under repairs after breaking down near the Immigration junction along Ibusa Road, Asaba.

It was gathered that there was no caution sign to show that the vehicle was under repair before the collision happened, as eyewitnesses blamed the accident on excessive speed.

According to them, the fire caused a total halt of activities on the road as men of the fire service battled to put off the inferno.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the State, Udeme Eshiet said the three vehicles were lost to the fire while 13 persons in the vehicles were rescued.

He blamed the accident on reckless driving and advised motorists to always drive carefully as excessive speeding can cost them their lives.
