The Rivers State Wing of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has screened ninety-six aspirants contesting for the Federal and State Houses of Assembly.
Those screened include six senatorial aspirants, twenty-six House of Representatives aspirants, and sixty-four State House of Assembly aspirants ahead of its forthcoming primaries.
PDP had resumed screening of aspirants on Wednesday, led by Francis Bulem, chairman of a five-man screening committee from Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Some aggrieved aspirants of the party had protested at the Party secretariat at Aba road axis of Port Harcourt, at the resumption of the screening process, accusing the leadership of the party of compromise.
Addressing the protesters, the State chairman of PDP, Desmond Akawor had assured the aspirants of equal opportunity and fair treatment, noting that the party belongs to every member.
On his part, the chairman of the screening committee, Francis Belum also promised to uphold internal democracy throughout their assignment in the State.
Meanwhile, the Rivers PDP governorship aspirants and other South-South states will be screened by a committee led by Bayelsa State governor, Douye Diri at the Zonal secretariat of the party.
