We don’t have gunboats on PH/Bonny waterways – indigenes tell Wike

The indigenes of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State have told the state government that Port Harcourt/Bonny waterways don’t have gunboats.

They drew the attention of the state government in view of the recently donated 14 ballistic gunboats to security agents by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Speaking on behalf of the indigenes, the Former Chairman, Bonny Marine Transporters Association, Golden Hart said that the non stationing of gunboats on Port Harcourt/Bonny sea route had made travellers vulnerable to attacks.

He said, “we travel at the mercy of God.

“There is no gunboat stationed on our sea route.

What gunboat operatives only do is to patrol on our waterways once in a while.

“Since sea pirates have noticed that our waterways don’t have stationed gunboats, they calculate when gunboats will not patrol and attack our people.

“Among the 14 gunboats that Governor Wike had donated to security agents, he should tell security agencies to station some on our waterways.”

Hart further gave an instance of sea robbery on a passenger boat few days ago which he said was foiled because of a gunboat on patrol when the incident occurred.
