The Rivers State Government says it would continue to support all interventions to improve the health status of the Rivers People.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike stated this during the Flag Off Ceremony of Bonny Island Insecticide Treated Net Distribution as part of the Bonny Malaria Elimination Project, on Saturday, 5th March 2022.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo Governor Wike said he remains extremely passionate about the health of the Rivers People, noting that he would continue to promote the availability of accessible, qualitative, and affordable health services.

Governor Wike who said Malaria was still a major Public Health concern and a major killer of children revealed that it causes anaemia in pregnancy and causes the low birth weight of the newborn.

“It is very important that we can be able to address it with this project and we thank the His Majesty and the good people of Bonny Kingdom for receiving the project here, and for running with it and we said that today we should encourage our people to embrace all the other public health interventions to preventable child health diseases, immunizations, and vaccination against Covid 19. I think it is a good time to say that all our communities should embrace all the interventions and ensure that we continue to have a healthy populace”.

The Governor who said he was delighted to be a part of the auspicious occasion of distributing insecticide-treated nets for the Bonny Kingdom Malaria Elimination Project, thanked the NLNG and partners for choosing Bonny for this project in Rivers State.
