Supreme Court sets May 27 for N6 billion defamation suit by Odili against Peterside

The Supreme Court on Monday fixed May 27 for judgement in the N6 billion defamation suit by former Governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili against a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside.

Dr Odili brought the case against Dakuku before the apex court over alleged defamation of his character.

After taking final arguments for and against the suit, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who led a five-man panel of Justices announced the date for judgement on the matter.

In the suit, the former Rivers State governor had claimed that Mr Peterside during a press conference in Port Harcourt maligned him in his allegations that Governor Nyesom Wike’s Supreme Court victory was conceived by him.

Odili, who was represented by Kanu Agabi, SAN, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal by Peterside and enter judgment in favour of Dr Odili.

However, Damian Okoro, counsel to Mr Peterside prayed the court to authorise the appeal.

Okoro also urged the court to set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the N6 billion naira defamation suit.
