You are deceptive, we will shutdown East-West Road again, youths tell FG

Brave Dickson

Ogoni youths have vowed to shutdown the East-West Road again, saying the federal government is deceptive and insensitive to the plight of the inhabitants of the road.

The youths who described their planned action as the season two mother of all protests said the shutdown will begin on March one this year.

Speaking on behalf of the youths, the President-General, Ogoni Youths Federation, Legborsi Yamabana told our correspondent that until government shows sincere commitment to fix the deplorable state of the road, the protest will not end.

He said, “when we carried out the season one mother of all protests on the East-West Road last year July 26 to August 1, the federal government promised to fix the road and we suspended the protest.

“Despite the fact that the East-West Road leads to two major government refineries, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation released N162billion for roads construction and repair across the country but did not include the East-West Road.

“The Rivers State Police Commissioner, Friday Eboka had just met with us, pleading with us not to shutdown the East-West Road but we will still go ahead to shut it down.

“The federal government has shown deception and insincerity and until we see full and genuine commitment on the part of the FG to fix that road, the road will remain shutdown indefinitely.”
