Rumuagholu community accuses Rivers police of helping land grabbers, calls for intervention

Residents of Rumuagholu community in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has called on the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Friday Eboka to intervene in a looming clash between community youths and police in the area.

The community said the possible clash would result from the way the police had denied residents access to part of the forest upon the arrival of some land grabbers speculating on the land.

A leader of the community, Mr Ovundah Nworgu, claimed that the police officers deployed in the area were preventing indigenes from accessing their land, causing confusion in the community.

According to Nworgu, the invasion of land grabbers in the community has led them to mobilise the youths to guard the land.

The community also called on the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba and Governor Nyesom Wike, to intervene in the situation, to avoid chaos.
