NSCDC arrests illegal migrants, 10 suspected kidnappers in Edo

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command says it has arrested 11 illegal migrants from the Niger Republic, including 10 suspected kidnappers in parts of the state.

The illegal migrants were reportedly arrested along the Ekpoma-Auchi road, based on intelligence and distress calls from the area.

Speaking to journalists on the arrest at the Command’s headquarter in Benin City, the State Commandant, Aniekan Udoeyop said the Command received a distress call on February 11, about some suspicious movement of some persons along the Ekpoma-Auchi express road.

He explained that following the call, Operatives of the command swung into action, and apprehended the suspects.

Udoeyop, however, maintained that the illegal migrants would be sent back to their country at the conclusion of investigations.

“We will liaise with relevant security agencies and see how they can be returned back to their country.

“We also arrested three of the main culprits who brought them in under the guise of giving them lucrative jobs.

“I will therefore advise parents to be cautious of whom they give their children out to.

“Some of these lucrative jobs these human traffickers promise are actually not there, and it’s just their ploy to modernise slavery,” he added.

On the arrest of suspected kidnappers, the commandant explained that they were arrested with exhibits including charms and other dangerous weapons.

He further explained that the suspects tried to utilise their charms on the personnel of the corps, but were unlucky, as their charms failed.
