Two dead, properties destroyed in Delta tanker explosion

Two persons have reportedly lost their lives after a tanker laden with liquefied petroleum gas exploded at Ohoror community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was gathered that the fire broke out after a truck carrying granite rammed into a stationary truck loaded with diesel.

The incident, which happened in the early hours of Thursday at the Ohoro Junction, along Warri-Portharcout Expressway, also destroyed properties, including vehicles and over 20 residential buildings worth hundreds of millions of naira.

Meanwhile, the State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has called for an immediate inspection into the cause of the explosion.

The governor made the call when he visited the scene of the incident.

Okowa, while commiserating with the community on the tragedy, said the government would take steps to cushion the effects of the fire on victims.

The governor who went in the company of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori, and Secretary to the State Government, Patrick Ukah, commended the Fire Service for the prompt response.

He advised indigenes to keep off from the scene as the government was working hard to contain the spread of the explosion.
