Military, youths launch joint manhunt for killers of oil workers in Bayelsa

Military operatives and Youths in Bayelsa have launched a search for the killers of three Agip workers over the weekend in Nembe Local Government Area of the state.

Security agencies have also activated a rescue operation for the seven others, who were kidnapped in Brass.

Recall that suspected sea pirates had attacked two oil installations, killing three and abducting seven oil workers on Sunday.

It was learnt that the criminals had ambushed their unsuspecting victims in Okoroma and Ogbokiri-Akassa communities of Nembe and Brass Local Government areas of the state.

Sources reveal that youths drawn from clans in Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas were annoyed that such killings could occur in their area.

Confirming the development, the youth president of the Okoroma community, Tarinyu Joseph, disclosed that the suspected pirates lost one of their own in the shootout with the security personnel attached to the ambushed oil workers.

Joseph revealed that youths of the various clans and their presidents have been put on alert to notify or apprehend those behind the killing of the oil workers and abduction of the boat driver.

He said Okoroma community had called for the intervention of Governor Douye Diri, which was left unanswered, over the activities of sea-pirates, especially from the Oluasiri axis in the area.
