Court sentences Woman to four years imprisonment for stealing eight-month-old baby

A Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced one Joy Friday-Jumbo to four years imprisonment for conspiring with a man to steal an eight-month-old baby boy.

Joy Friday-Jumbo was standing trial for stealing and conspiracy following her role in the stealing of the eight-month baby boy who is still yet to be found, on the 23rd February 2020 in Umuoke village in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Joy Friday-Jumbo was later discovered to be pregnant while on trial inside the correctional facility and later delivered a baby girl which the court ordered that the baby be retrieved from her and handed over to the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare.

Chief Magistrate, Rita Oguguo in her judgment found Joy Friday-Jumbo guilty of conspiracy on the missing eight months baby and therefore sentenced her to four years imprisonment.

Chief Magistrate Oguguo said only the court will release the child delivered by the convict to any reasonable member of her family who can take care of the baby or the child will remain in the custody of the Social Welfare pending the expiration of the convict’s four-year jail term.
